Capital Markets Campaigning: A short guide for NGOs, Unions and Civil Society

 

The capital markets - dominated by large "institutional investors" such as fund managers, pension funds and insurance companies - collectively own the world's listed companies (i.e. companies whose shares are listed on a stock exchange), which gives them great influence over company behaviour.

There exists great potential for corporate behaviour improvements and campaign successes if NGOs and unions can convince institutional investors of the relevance of a particular issue to their position as a shareholder in a company.
